History of The Bently

The history of the Bentley was begun almost a century ago in Europe. The Bentley Motors Limited Company is a British based producer of quality, luxury automobiles. The company was founded in England 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley. This is the gentleman who first produced a very unique and popular rotary aero engine line for use during the First World War.

One group of people who fired the success of the Bentley line was a group of auto racing buffs that were nicknamed the Bentley Boys. These men would often race these cars and win which would further secure the name and reputation of this automobile. One of the men once won a race from Cannes to Calais to London, with the use of a short ferry ride to Dover.

The car won the race by traveling on normal roads and with regular traffic of the day. This classic car gained fame as the Blue Train Bentley. The Bentley was also used to capture victories at the famed Le Mans racetrack during the years 1927, 1928, 1929, and 1930. The famous Bugatti autos were the closest competition during this time and these elegant beauties could not keep up with the “world’s fastest trucks”, the Bentleys.

The Bentley even produced an 8L model in 1931 but the company was bought by Rolls Royce during the years of the Depression when luxury products were becoming a hard sell.

The 6L Bentley was the standard car and was known for being a fearsome and daunting racer, but they have made many other sizes of engines. The 4.5L Bentley was known as the Blower Bentley and it had a supercharger that jutted out from under the bottom plate of the grille. This Bentley was the one that James Bond drove in the books and it was noted as the car seen driven by John Steed and Emma Peel in the television series, “The Avengers”. This role enabled this auto to gain distinction as The Car that exuded elegance, power, and graceful handling.

The interiors of the Bentley automobiles are the epitome of perfection and superior workmanship. You will only find bits of plastic where it is absolutely the best material to do the job. Leathers and real wood rule the day in these cars. The woods are handpicked for their grain and beauty, and even the leather hides are carefully selected for quality and blemish free appearance.

These cars have always exuded high-end luxury and this has never been truer than in the new Bentleys. The carpets are plush and thickly padded and the seats are more like recliners you would purchase for your home furnishings. Every inch of the car is meticulous in fittings and details.

There is a brilliant touch system dash utilizing the highest technology, including voice activated controls, and a Breitling Clock provides occupants with the precise time of day. The ride of the Bentley is buttery smooth and there are absolutely no noises from the outside that will creep in to distract the driver or passengers. For sheer automotive genius and luxury, the Bentley remains in a class of its own.
