History of the Aston Martin
The Aston Martin Company was founded in 1913; they are headquartered in Gaydon, England, UK. The company has been bought and sold several times over their career. They were most recently and notably purchased by the Ford Motor Company. Ford helped to give them more national appeal.
Many people are familiar with the Aston Martin through the 007 movies staring British secret service agent James Bond. The Aston Martin car has been featured in many other popular culture films such as The Birds and The Italian Job. It has also been shown in many television shows, the cultural significance spans almost 100 years.
Production began in 1921 on cars and ending on 1939, these are considered post-war cars. Pre-war cars began rolling off the line in 1948 featuring the Aston Martin 2-Litre Sports (DB1). David Brown Limited purchased Aston Martin and thus began bearing his initials on models manufactured after that. Aston Martin cars were raced on the Formula One circuit in 1959 and 1960.
The Aston Martin Vanquish was used in the 007 film “Die Another Day”, it has since been discontinued. It has a 5.9 Liter V12 engine and tops out at 196 MPH. Often thought of as a high priced sports car many who have wanted to obtain them could only admire them from afar. The company is now being run by an Aston Martin collector and Prodrive. This company designs and constructs racing cars. Aston Martin is looking toward the future, the Loganda brand plans to introduce a new Aston Martin for 2013 celebrating 100 years of automotive history.
